“The general public does not currently adequately value the role of music and the arts in the development and engagement of young people. Many School Boards do not recognize music and arts as a pillar to education and have concentrated on math, science and literacy skills. Corporate and private philanthropic sectors often view health and mainstream education as more worthy causes to support than music and the arts and culture. More young people need the opportunity to create and explore music and the arts and culture. Arts organizations need more resources to develop works and programs that both engage and respect youth.”*
*The Laidlaw Foundation
The College of Piping is such an organization. It engages, respects and inspires youth. With the help of hundreds of people donating to The College, we have been able to secure a future for traditional Celtic music and dance.
Thank you!

We believe in keeping the music and dance of our Celtic ancestors alive and we work hard at it.
We could sure use your help.
"I think the grandest thing is to see little boys and girls learning the dances and music of their heritage. In a world as uncertain as ours, it's a grand bit of knowledge that this will continue if The College of Piping is well-funded. When you see those kids beaming on stage every summer, you can see and endless line of heritage and have a sense of the continuity of generations. It's comforting. Anywhere else you look today, you see the traditions of the past being ignored."
Forrest Baker
Carrying On The Mission
Today more than 400 students are registered at The College of Piping. Students come from Japan, New Zealand, the United States and Scotland, both in person and online, to learn to master the Great Highland Bagpipe and other Celtic disciplines. A growing number of Island students are also coming to The College thanks to the Doug and Debbie Hall Scholarship program. Years ago Doug Hall and his family attended The College as summer students in piping, drumming and dancing. They had an entirely positive experience and wanted to ensure that more and more Island children would be able to share in the wonderful gift of music and dance. Out of their family’s experience, Doug and his wife, Debbie launched the Doug and Debbie Hall Scholarship Program. This program subsidizes piping or drumming tuition for any child living on the Island between the ages of 8 and 18. Hundreds have signed up and the waiting list continues to grow.
As our student numbers increase, so does the need for qualified instructors and more program offerings. As The College looks to the future, it must continue to be innovative and offer a wider complement of expertise in different Celtic disciplines. At the same time, we cannot compromise the standards that have drawn students from around the globe. Students come from across the country and around the world because alumni of The College have distinguished themselves as amongst the best in national and international competitions.
In order to ensure that The College of Piping maintains its standards and remains at the leading edge of instruction and program diversity, it has been determined that there is a need for a predictable source of funds outside of tuition and performance revenues. Tuition and performance revenues represent well below 50% of the annual requirements for The College, so fundraising is key to our survival.
$250,000 In Annual Support In the short term, The College of Piping has set a goal of raising $250,000 annually for each of the next three years for Operational Support. This $250,000 figure ensures that The College will break even operationally with sound fiscal management. Securing commitments of support from a variety of sources in various amounts totaling $250,000 annually over the next three years is critically important. Simultaneously, The College is seeking to build the Endowment Fund up to a level where it becomes the longer term source for the $250,000 in annual support.
Endowment Fund Secures The Future As stated previously, in the short term The College of Piping has set a goal of raising $250,000 annually in order to make up for the shortfall in revenues. In the long term, an Endowment Fund is targeted as the vehicle for generating the required $250,000 in annual support. It has been determined that the Endowment Fund will have to reach $5 Million in order to conservatively generate the $250,000 in annual interest.

Excellence Scholarships To maintain the burgeoning instructional program in bagpiping and drumming and to expand the scholarship offerings to include Highland Dance, Step Dance and other performing disciplines Excellence Scholarships become paramount.
Excellence Scholarships can be funded in one of two ways. $500 in annual support or a one-time $10,000 contribution. The one-time $10,000 commitment for a scholarship ensures that $500 in annual scholarships will be offered in perpetuity. The $10,000 one-time contribution will be pooled with other Endowed Funds and continue to appreciate over time. None of the principal dollars contributed to the fund can be touched and only a maximum of up to ninety per cent of the interest on the principal can be used. This ensures that at least 10% of the annual interest on the principal will be rolled over and will continue to grow year after year, providing much needed long term security for The College of Piping.
The College of Piping currently is seeking support for 20 Excellence Scholarships (5 Bagpiping, 5 Drumming, 5 Highland Dancing and 5 Step Dancing)at $10,000 per Scholarship, that will recognize outstanding students.

Capital Fund As The College of Piping continues to evolve, funds will be required for Capital improvements and growth. Currently, The College has secured $150,000 of a $250,000 requirement for a ten acre parcel of land adjacent to the existing College property. We now have a shortfall of $100,000 in accomplishing our goal. We are actively prospecting to consider a contribution of $100,000 representing the balance of the required funds, towards this very important capital project. In recognition of this support, we have the blessing of the trustees of the Wyatt Foundation to name the property in honor of the supporting body, thus creating a lasting legacy. Other capital funds will be required in order to maintain the current facility as the need arises or as the need is anticipated.
The College has emerged as a force on the world stage of Celtic Performing Arts by remaining faithful to the authenticity of its educational programs and performance standards. An Endowment Fund will help ensure The College will continue to be “One hundred percent authentic, heartfelt Celtic” for many years to come.
The College of Piping is a registered Canadian charity (#12413 8520 RR 0001), and has a supporting charity in the United States called The Friends of The College of Piping, Summerside (Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c) (3) and Non Private Foundation Status Under Code Section 509 (a)).
The College Of Piping relies on donations from generous individuals, companies and foundations to support its educational mission and high quality stage productions. Like most educational institutions, tuition revenue generates less than 20 percent of the annual operating requirement for The College of Piping. Donations and sponsorships, therefore, play a key role in the overall financial viability of The College.

"Although The College of Piping prides itself in being the 'Keeper of the Key' in protecting and preserving traditional music, song and dance, it also promotes the development and creation of new compositions, choreography and stage productions. The College of Piping draws on faculty, students, alumni and friends to collaborate on the creation of new artistic works that find their way through developmental workshops our main stage. These works are unique to The College of Piping and position us as a unique, international educational and performing arts production house."
Scott MacAulay, Executive Director of The College of Piping

"Our mother, Louise Morgan, was one of the early supporters of The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada. She would have been delighted to see it grow from its humble beginnings to a world-class organization. It is a credit to all those involved that this internationally prestigious institution has never lost its 'down-home' Island feel. We are pleased to continue to the support from the Morgan family as The College builds its secure financial future."

"In her later years, it was Mother's favourite thing to do on a Thursday night - to go to the shows at The College of Piping. She came in from Freetown with a neighbour who had a daughter who was dancing. Nothing would have thrilled my mother more than to have her name associated with The College. Their ceilidhs gave her and her friends such happiness.
When she passed away I made up my mind to give to The College, but not for a few more years. Then, as 1999 was drawing to a close, I decided to give more rather than less and to give sooner, rather than later. It was important to me that Mother's family and friends remember her in their lifetime." Roger S. Burns
