05-11-2009 | A Winning Weekend! Step dancers from The College of
Piping won top honours this past weekend at the Eastern Canadian Dance
Championships! On May 9, 2009, dozens of dancers traveled to Moncton, NB to participate in the competition,taking home medals and trophies in all categories.Overall trophy winners included Erin Burke
and Olivia Thompson, for their junior duet “Evia”;
Kennedy Crossland, Maria Doyle, Emma MacKenzie, Mikaila Murray and Kate Steele,
with their junior small group “The Reel
Deal”; Kelly Burke, Kristen Edison, Ellen Holland, Chelsee Rayner and Emily
Roberts with their senior small group “Celtic
Euphoria”; and Mikaila Murray, for her junior solo.Winning the Workshop Scholarship Award for
2010 was Daisey-Lee MacDonald.
In addition, The College of Piping
had two pieces that scored overall highest marks in the competition.Winning the Highest Mark of the Day in a Step/Tap Group was “Celtic Storm”, performed by Maddie
MacMillan, Daisey-Lee MacDonald, Ashley White, Regan Winters, Olivia Thompson,
Erin Burke, Kelly Burke, Kristen Edison, Ellen Holland, Chelsee Rayner, Emily
Roberts, Makayla Powell, Rachel Brown, David McNeill and Morgan MacKinnon.Winning the Highest Mark of the Day in a Character Dance was “Hairspray Ceilidh” with
Jillann Langin, Coady Gray, Rebecca Masters, Maddie MacMillan, Daisey-Lee
MacDonald, Ashley White, Regan Winters, Olivia Thompson, Erin Burke, Kelly
Burke, Kristen Edison, Ellen Holland, Chelsee Rayner, Emily Roberts, Makayla
Powell, Rachel Brown, David McNeill and Morgan MacKinnon.Additional medalists over the weekend
included Andre Celliers, Erin MacKinnon, Amy Thompson, Lauren Lenentine and
Madison Murphy.
