Internship

This intensive-study program is for the serious drumming student. Students can choose to attend one, two or all three twelve-week terms. It is designed as a personal growth program which is tailored to the specific needs of the individual. The College offers the student a unique opportunity to enjoy learning, performance, travel, competition and the interaction of all Celtic disciplines in a specifically designed, world-class facility.

The College encourages community-based activities which strive to build team spirit while working towards a common goal of excellence. Leadership skills will be developed through the student's involvement in the annual Summerside Highland Gathering, assistant teaching assignments, and participation in community activities. Furthermore, all drumming immersion students are encouraged to study an introductory level course in the Great Highland Bagpipe for an appreciation of the ensemble of pipes and drums.

The student will be eligible to compete with The College Pipe Band as well as participate in regional solo drumming events. An Atlantic Canada Pipe Band Association membership is required. As many as eight Highland games are held throughout Eastern Canada during the competition season.

Dates

The program is offered in three-month increments. Many students opt to devote a year to study for three semesters and a competition season. Exceptions can be made for students unable to attend during regularly scheduled terms.

Student Schedule

Lessons are conducted Monday through Friday each week and will consist of three, ninety minutes private lessons. Students will be accountable for daily practice time (supervised and unsupervised), weekly apprentice teaching, and written assignments.

Course Requirements

Lessons (Monday to Friday), practice, band participation, weekly assistant teaching, weekly report and a term paper. Students entering the internship program will also be required to take an active part in the spring and fall workshops either as a student or an assistant teacher.
