The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada Millennium Fund Raising Project Commemorative Limited Edition Reproduction
In 1998, The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada commissioned critically acclaimed Canadian artist, Dusan Kadlec for a commemorative painting to mark the 125th Anniversary Prince Edward Island joining Confederation in 1873. There are 873 reproductions of this nostalgic image published. Each piece in the strictly limited edition is colour corrected, signed and numbered by the artist personally.
The painting depicts the Colonial Building, now known as Province House in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on a bright sunny day in 1873 during the official reading of the Union Proclamation that united Prince Edward Island to the new Dominion of Canada. Crowds, dressed in the finery of the day, stand outside and listen as the historic proclamation is read.

About the artist Dusan Kadlec marked his 30th anniversary as a professional artist in 1998. Born in what is now the Czech Republic in 1942, he received his Master’s degree from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1967. Shortly afterward, in 1968, he emigrated to Canada and settled in Nova Scotia where he now makes his home. Since that time he has concentrated his extraordinary artistic ability developing his unique and immediately recognizable style. His compassionate studies of cities like Halifax, Toronto, Boston, and Amsterdam are all meticulously researched through each and every available archival source. They are highly sought after and are now considered the standard by numerous collectors worldwide. In the tradition of the Old Masters, Kadlec’s art is at once both simple and profound. His vivid canvases of nineteenth and early twentieth century life continue to win him an ever increasing number of fans both at home and abroad. Today, the fifty-seven year old artist’s continuing output of major works is viewed by many as the undisputed benchmark of urban and Maritime heritage.
